I asked her why people denigrate government spending when there is little in the private sector that could match the returns of, say, our $8 billion annual investment in the federal courts, with the trillions of dollars of economic activity it protects and thus facilitates.
"The state actually has been massively essential for capitalism to work," @MazzucatoM told me. "That's the myth about the free market. Without the state, we wouldn't have capitalism." https://the.ink/p/austerity
