I hired my 10 y/o daughter to be 1 of the research assistants on my project. The goal was to teach her a few important skills like creating an invoice, doing research, billable hours + teach her about my passions. Turns out I needed the lessons--and she delivered. Short thread
Before she started we had an official meeting about job expectations and payment. She's paid slightly less than others because of her job experience :-). But I pay everyone on the same day. They invoice on Monday and are paid Friday before 5pm est
1 day I forgot 2pay her.
Her: Did u get my invoice? You didn't pay me and I gave u my work
Me: I'm sorry.I 4got
Her: Did u 4get anyone else?
Me:No
Her: I'm sending u another invoice 4 more $ bc you were late and this doesn't feel fair. Especially because I'm the only 1 u forgot.
I felt bad about forgetting her. I paid her late fee and never made that mistake again. The moral of the story is 1 stay teachable, none of us are above correction. 2. When you hire people u know this doesn't mean get comfortable and careless about your responsibilities to them.
