2/ The Problem: The new changes were abruptly announced–without necessary stakeholder consultation–and with an impossibly short 30 day public comment period.
3/ In addition, many of the changes being proposed mischaracterize and misinterpret legal standards regarding individual employee protections and employer obligations in a way that could allow for further discrimination against Sikhs and other individuals.
4/ Why It Matters: These last-minute changes have the potential to negatively affect Sikhs, other religious minorities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, women, and others in the workplace for years to come.
5/ How We Are Responding: The Sikh Coalition is leading 50+ orgs in urging the EEOC to reject the proposed guidance and begin a new, more inclusive process to revise it that includes the voices of Sikhs and other groups affected. https://www.sikhcoalition.org/blog/2020/opposing-eeocs-new-discrimination-guidance/
