This is an interesting thread but I think misses the essential point. You cannot logic your way out of this cul de sac. The problem is narrative & humans thrive on narrative.
Because that's how humans see the world. https://twitter.com/cakeylaura/status/1341412374792835073

We're not Spocks. Everything about us, our art, our science, our politics, the way we are with others, the way we are with ourselves is all about narrative. We tell stories.
What the Right does is tell a story. That story invariably goes for the gut. That means it hits our primitive centres & these bypass our rational minds. It's not that patriotism is a drug but that the right have captured a certain narrative.
You can't challenge that with a frank exchange of views. Or using academic language. If you tell people they are wrong, if you sideline them & denigrate them you are denying their stories. If you use academic speak your story is boring.
Which doesn't mean you pander to them. Oh god no - that's a mistake. If you pander to the right's story you reinforce it. This is the great error of the Blair years. If your position is 'your opponent is right' & your opponent have access to the entirety of the story machine...
... Humans eventually get it. They will reject you and go to the source. They don't need you for that story.
The only way to beat this is with a better story. Your narratives must be more compelling. Never play the tory game, never tolerate it.
The short story is that you need to be better at it.
