A 2021 ARMY Checklist ✅

[A Non-Comprehensive Guide to Being a Progressive, Positive Part of the Fandom]

*this first and foremost applies to me and how I react. no one is forced to think how I do, and you're welcome to disagree or challenge me on points if you want! this is, and I stress, a personal thread.
✍️ Be kinder. If I have an issue with a tweet, calmly and rationally explain my issue. Know that not everyone thinks like me, and I could be wrong. Be open to hearing other perspectives.
✍️ Trust BTS. They know what is best for themselves individually and for the group. Know that I am not privy to their conversations, and they are adults who can speak for themselves. Know also, that their conversation with the company is one they're constantly part of.
✍️ Read more of BTS' lyrics. I've forgotten many times that songs are sometimes meant for more than a casual listen. Their lyrics hold life lessons that they've crafted and shared with us. Put more of those lessons into context. Am I practicing the message of the content?
✍️ Do not engage in sheepmy behavior. Always use rational, critical thinking. Do not let my emotions guide me. If needed, take a step back, a 5-minute break before responding. Realize my actions have consequences that could effect BTS.
✍️ Re: sheepmy behavior — Do not let anyone guilt trip me into making me believe I'm not OT7, and do not feel the need to prove or disprove baseless accusations from antis/solos. I know myself and my heart best.
✍️ Utilize the block function. People who are unwilling to learn and who stoop down to insults are not worth my energy or breath. Be assured that I'm not missing a chance to win them over or rationalize.
✍️ Re: block function — Do my best to not create echo chambers. Curating my tl is important, but blocking as a knee-jerk reaction could cut off educational opportunities to someone who might need, and welcome, them. Be kind to new army willing to listen and learn.
✍️ Know that everyone makes mistakes. Let them explain. They are entitled to that much. Be assured that it's not necessary for them to earn my forgiveness, but be aware others can forgive and that's up to them. Unless the mistake is egregious and/or constant, move on.
✍️ Be happy for and commend good media coverage; ignore the bad. Unless an article contains blatant racism, xenophobia, malicious intent or factual errors, don't waste my energy. Recognize not all coverage will be in a positive light, and there's only so much I, as a fan, can do.
✍️ Re: media coverage — Articles on BTS that are xenophobic, racist or repeat factual errors should be dealt with as if I was speaking to the editor face to face. Do not harass or spam writers. Do not perpetuate the "rabid fangirl" label we're so disgusted by. (1/2)
In addressing media, know writers will not always respond, but the publication sees the reaction. As with THR, there's often ethics teams working behind the scenes. Take these complaints I make seriously. Make them with force to be heard, but with respect to be listened to. (2/2)
✍️ Do not idolize fan accounts. Fans are humans. Fans can make mistakes. Do not put one fan on a pedestal over the likes of another fan. Appreciate their efforts (translators, gif makers, content sharers) but know I am first and foremost here for BTS.
✍️ Know when it is my place to speak up. Some issues do not concern me. If I want to get involved and believe an issue needs to be heard, do not speak over or for the group of people affected. Instead, I should provide support and, if wanted, supplemental commentary.
✍️ Re: When to speak up — If I believe an issue to be overblown or unjustified, listen first to those it could affect. Search for context and nuance. Don't retweet threads until I can recognize the info is being shared without a dangerous or double intention.
✍️ Most importantly, let this be a positive experience. If I feel overwhelmed or under the weather, take a break. Go IA or private for a day or two. There's no shame in taking a step back from the digital world to focus on the physical. Find a healthy balance (1/2)
because more often than not, being unhappy, constantly judgemental or searching for drama on the tl will translate over to my moots. Give them the stan experience I wish to have. Find my balance, and help others find theirs. (2/2)
My final thought: Let your twt stan experience be about BTS. Your followers and the friends you make are great, but please remember we are all here for BTS. Let's keep supporting them, first and foremost! ily, my purple-blooded comrades 💜
