Some interesting Dolphins Def. All-22 notes from Pats game:

Miami played more 3-4 than normal. Also started Brandon Jones at SS and Eric Rowe at FS with McCain on the bench.

Miami used Br. Jones inserted over TEs with Rowe in MOF.
Christian Wilkins didn't pile up the stats, but played a very, very good game. Got penetration and ate doubles in the run game. Applied pressure in the pass game, especially in 3-man rushes.
Miami used 3-4 personnel, but sometimes played Jerome Baker like a SS inserted over a TE, making it look like their 3-3 Diamond (nickel) formation.

Miami used Raekwon Davis as their DT in their 3-2 Ruby (Dime) formation. Usually Wilkins or Sieler are in that role.
Miami seemed prepared for Cam Newton running on 3rd downs.

Both of Patriots long runs in 1Q came at Andrew Van Ginkel. One was a missed tackle, the other came off a great crack block from Jakobi Meyers that pinned AVG inside and Michel bounced it for 17.
Brandon Jones had some issues covering TE crossers. Usually the TE crossed with the backside receiver covered by Byron Jones. Not sure if Brandon Jones is supposed to pass that off, or wall of TE. Jerome Baker bailed them out several times with open-field tackles for short gains.
Miami played a wider 3-man line than usual. Normally they're 4i-0-4i or 3-0-3. This week they played 5-0-5, often inserting a SS or LB (Baker) between the 5 technique and the edge LB. This allowed them to keep a free edge defender to play the Patriots option runs.
Miami were able to use Emmanuel Ogbah as a 5-tech. DE in their 3-4 packages, normally putting him on the weakside. Allowed him to use his length to collapse the backside.
Miami also used wider alignments in their 3-3 Diamond. Normally they've played at least two DTs in that 3-man line. Against NE they played both Lawson and Ogbah, with Raekwon Davis inside. Normally they condense that front to help against inside runs.
Miami used Jerome Baker as an OLB in this 3-3 set. Normally he's the off-ball ILB or off the field. This, I think, allowed Miami to use him 1-v-1 against James White and/or to provide a speedier edge threat outside Lawson.
Lots of creative wrinkles used by Josh Boyer to great effect. Sunday was Miami's third game of the season not allowing a touchdown, tied for most in the league with New Orleans. Miami will need another effort like that on Saturday to beat Las Vegas. #FinsUp
