anyone wanna hear my takes about how vampire turning works?
haha yeah sure, i wanted to talk about it.

i actually wrote this some time ago but it went into my drafts unfinished lmao

anyway, so this is how it works within my lore. thread??
so, say, you got bitten by a vampire. that's enough to turn, right?
haha, no. if that was the case, there would be a vampire epidemic.

no, it needs something more.

if you're bit, but nothing fatal happens to you within a certain period of time, you'll stay mortal.
so what's needed?
death.

more specifically, vampiric venom, which activates upon death.
a mortal will get small traces of it in their system when bit, but normally it won't do much.

but if you die before it's out of your system?
welcome to vampirism lmao, you're undead now
to guarantee a turning, you'll need a slightly more significant amount.

best way is ingesting vampire blood.
some extra droplets can be enough, if there's already something in the system from previous bites. otherwise, the human may actively have to drink it themselves.
if a mortal human gets enough vampire stuff in them, they will slowly start dying on their own. they may get exhausted. take an extended nap that lasts days. they would die in their sleep, but not decay.

or they'll stubbornly try to stay awake anyway, until death does happen.
i haven't even mentioned eye colors yet!

you know how my vampires all have glowy eyes in various colors, right?

if they somehow manage to die shortly after being bit, they will turn, and the eye color will relate to their cause of death.
so here's this little chart i made of vampire eye colors:
i'll explain more in detail about each of these in a bit, hold on-
DID I... FREAKING LOSE ALL THE TWEETS I HAD BEEN TYPING UP???? ?? ?? ??? SERIOUSLY

W H Y
OKAY SO RED.
Red would be death by bloodloss. Often murder, or getting into fights that turn out fatal and leave you bleeding out. Or just simply.. getting drained too much by a vampire, but not enough.
May have good regenerative abilities!

Einarr here died after a swordfight.
ORANGE: HEAT.
Fire, heatstroke, whatever!
If someone dies from getting way too warm, this is what they get.

The eyes may have a firey glow to them, and chances are, they might have fire powers.

Helena here died in a housefire after being bit.
YELLOW.
Post-death bite.

Of course, this doesn't mean you can go bite any old corpse and they'll turn; the corpse needs to be fresh.

Bat here died from an accident at age 14, and was saved by a bite. He had made it very clear that he wanted to be a vampire, so it's fine.
GREEN

Poison! Any type of poison. If a mortal ingests poison after being bit by a vampire, their turning may be just as speedy as however long the poison takes to kill someone.

this girl here got turned by an old vampire lord who was getting impatient.

could have poison spit
CYAN.

I have no example vampires for this one, but this is when you die from getting too cold, after a recent fateful vampire encounter.

It's the opposite of orange.

Ice powers are a possibility, but as always, it's not guaranteed.

Not to be confused with cyan-glowing white.
i don't know what to call this color, but it was "light blurple" on the chart.

"Silver", maybe??

Anyway, this is when someone dies from being deprived of an essential human need.

This dude tried to rob a grave, only to find a vampire there. He suffocated in a coffin.
BLUE. Drowning. Because of course.

How dark the color ends up being, depends on how salty the water is. More saline means darker eyes.

One can be bit while they're drowning. That's what happened to this kid here, who fell into a river and got arguably rescued by a vampire.
PURPLE.
Dying from any illness.
If someone's already physically ill and probably about to die, being bit by a vampire may accelerate their (un)death happening.

The glow from these eyes may blink and stutter like a broken lightbulb. Could be affected by mood.
PINK.

It's the wildcard color. The fill-in-the-blank color. That's really all there is to it.

For example, Rune here was a cursed kid born to human parents, so he really didn't have any cause of death.

Alternately, if a person had heterochromia, pink will be the other color.
WHITE. Last one!

"No additional complications".

I'll elaborate: This is what you get when you turn by having a certain amount of vampire blood in your system, and that alone.
It's the slowest, it's tiring, you may take a nap and die in your sleep, only to wake up weeks later.
There's another little quirk to this one: the white will be slightly tinted by a neon version of whatever your original eye color was. Morten had blue eyes, they get a cyan tint. Not to be confused with actual cyan eyes.

A brown-eyed person would get them tinted orange instead.
anyway that's it!!

glad i was able to actually post this, since the whole time i was kinda being paranoid about accidentally pressing enter twice without typing in the window, and then exiting out of everything AGAIN (this happened last time)
or just.. clicking outside the tweet box in general.

making threads on desktop is scary okay

suddenly i might click wrong and lose Everything with no backups
