Why One Of These Nights is one of the best kpop release, musically speaking.

[A THREAD]
1. There are three key centers in the song, and all of them are really complimentary with the lyrics and the story. The verses and pre-chorus are the sad reality, the chorus is telling you their hopes, and the bridge is the frustation of waiting and hoping.
2. There are two types of modulation that being used in this song, direct and indirect ones. Direct Modulation is sudden modulation, without chord progressions as a transition. In contrary, Indirect Modulation has some chord progressions as a transition.
The modulation in the bridge, use modal interchange relationship, because E major it’s really connecting with G major (E minor, major relative). Here is a short brief about modal interchange.
3. The strings are legit! I think using orchestration in pop song is needed if you know how to execute it!

(Manifesting more orchestration in kpop tracks, zimzalabim).
4. The chord progressions are not your typical four-generic-chords-for-pop-songs. It’s really harmony based, even it’s not Jacob Collier level of harmony, it’s still more complex than your average Kpop songs. It’s worth to try to play if you’re a musician.
5. Last but not least, their vocals! Giving the right song for the wrong artists will sound wrong tho. Big hats for their A&R team for found and executed this song perfectly! Honestly this is why Red Velvet is one of the kpop groups that has the best discography so far.
