https://unherd.com/2020/12/is-autism-a-superpower/ I don't know where to start with this, other than noting KCL is working with Autism Speaks on the AIMS-2 'cure/treat autistic people' project.
I wish people didn't invent nonsense about what neurodiversity equality advocates are asking for, I really do.
Sigh, here we go.
The author notes that the children they worked with had learning disabilities, but goes on to attribute everything in their lives to autism. I think not.
"The general memory I have of his autism is one of SUFFERING" writes Stuart, who announces that/
Stuart throws in 'doubly incontinent' as if this a hallmark of autism, which it is not. In fact the statistics for autistic/non-autistic individuals and autism are about the same.
No mention of whether the child was in sensory hell, or had epileptiform brain spikes/
Now, Stuart dives in with the 'gosh, those autistic people saying it should be celebrated - what nonsense', line of argument (paraphrased).
Don't you worry, Stuart. In any one day, most of us are told we are Deficient and Disordered from one end to the other/
./..and the net effect is depression, anxiety, and suicide.
Heaven only knows what would happen if we were allowed to feel positive about ourselves, eh?

What is the matter with someone who only wants us to be miserable?/
Wandering further away from modern research, Stuart clings to the idea that "30-40%" of autistic people have a learning disability. It's 15%.
"Those with lower levels of functioning" is a rude phrase and we can do without it/
And as for the idea that those promoting equality and positivity, to enable people to thrive instead of sinking without trace, means that they Just Don't Care About People With Real Problems (paraphrased), what utter utter nonsense.
