This works when government is already small. Today, inactivity just lets the permanent bureaucracy metastasize

We don’t need containment. We need rollback https://twitter.com/jonahdispatch/status/1341484076084150274
Imagine if @BetsyDeVosED just “sat there” and let Title IX show trials continue
Unfortunately it’s hard to identify other good examples, because Trump mostly “sat there” and ran his mouth

DACA remains. Obamacare remains. Spending by omnibus remains. The Taliban remain
Deep-seated problems remain at the FBI with politicization and questionable competence. Public pension insolvencies, as well as the depletion of Social Security and Medicare trust funds, are a near certainty. Because everyone is content to “sit there”
As China has continued to hack hack hack away — from Sony to OPM to TikTok — our political class is content to sit there
We gave unimaginable sums to the CDC over the years, only to discover that they weren’t prepared for a communicable disease. The FDA’s Culture of No delayed widespread testing by over 3 months (and continues to delay). Maybe let’s “do something”, rather than continue on autopilot
Has the VA gotten any better? Does the TSA do anything more consequential than stealing items from our luggage?

No? Then maybe it’s time for our elected officials to get off their asses and *do something*
There’s a popular idea among conservatives and libertarians that gridlock is good, because government action is bad

The problem is, most of our government isn’t elected anymore. So electoral gridlock doesn’t translate to government inactivity
Rather, gridlock translates to more government as no one has sufficient power to check the growing power of bureaucrats. The bureaucrats get plenty of running room, even in divided government
So no, we don’t need zombie Coolidgism. We need competent and aggressive ideologues to take on the centralized state

And since that’s not what voters want, we’ll get bipartisan do-nothingism until the state collapses under its own weight
