One winter when daylight was scarce in early February, I went caribou hunting with my late father & my brother. We went to Home Bay area closer to Clyde River. I wanted to experience winter hunt and boy it changed me. I was dressed in fur clothing top to bottom. We slept in...
...illuvigat or igloos. We saw polar bears. The scenery was incredible. My vision was excellent at that time & I became a spotter. Caribou camouflaged into snow covered mountains is really hard to see. Driving up the mountains were unreal & scary. Once in a lifetime experience.
My perspective on Inuit hunters changed because intelligence plays a huge part in terms of how to read the land/sea ice, the weather & the animal behaviours. Traveling on sea ice in complete darkness is a skill. My father used the stars & the skies to guide us to our destination.
Huge respect for the hunters who provides food to families and their communities.
