1/ Telegram announces that in 2021 it will need to begin generating income as Durov can no longer personally fund it's 500 millions active users. Durov states that Telegram will not go the WhatsApp route and sell the company. The goal is to remain independent.2

2/ Telegram wants to "keep striving for perfection and integrity" and cannot do so under the thumb of a corporation. Telegram will add premium features for business and power users, which will need to be payed for by a premium subscription.

3/ in point 6 Telegram states that the public one to many channels are more like twitter feeds. To that end Telegram is going the ad-revenue route. These ads will be non-intrusive and will look like messages in the channel itself. These ads will be found only in public channels4

4/there is no mention that these ads will be found in group chats, encrypted chats or private channels. Part of the profits will generate free traffic to the channels in proportion to their size, Telegram also announces there may be a premium sticker feature that can be monetized

5/ going to ad route I think that Telegram and companies that advertise on it will face a challenge especially where it concerns Terrorgram. Companies advertising their products on telegram need to be aware that they will be promoted in extremists, racist, & terrorist channels.

6/ if monetization is the end game Telegram will face challenges securing constant advertiser's is each week there are reports of product X advertised found in extremist channel Y and company X has to explain why it advertised in channel Y and do they support value X.

7/ does this mean that Telegram will need to moderate some channels maybe though I doubt it with their track record. Will Telegram simply push terrorgram into private groups and channels where ads will not be found? That's more likely.

8/ I think early 2021 will be a time for the research and journalistic community to raise awareness of what and who is found on Telegram. And reporting on holding advertisers to account to what and where they are promoting it.

9/ There will need to be
some reporting on add about assless
flannel pajamas being promoted along
side nazi propaganda, or toothpaste ads along side Holocaust denialism, or soda ads along side bomb making manuals.

10/ I am also hoping some savvy researchers will look into how Telegram will be collecting user data and what it is doing with it.

11/ this is an inevitable step for any platform that has seen large growth. Ultimately, considering Telegrams track record, I think this will be FUBAR and may provide a way for extremists to monetize on Telegram.
