After arbitration with the FOP, Columbus Police were forced to rehire Zachary Rosen in 2018.

The FOP claimed the mayor’s comments "made it impossible for Officer Rosen to be treated fairly.” Rosen is still on the force today. https://bit.ly/3nK8eMr
Reporter @adorakn found that, including Zachary Rosen, @ColumbusPolice had fired just 14 officers in the past decade – and three were rehired after appeals from the FOP.

(This was before the Vice Unit investigation, so those numbers are circa 2018) https://bit.ly/37FVPDz
These cases are all newly relevant because of a few things.

For one, just in December, Columbus saw two cases of law enforcement officers – one Columbus Police officer, one Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy – fatally shooting Black men. https://bit.ly/3hdrdg4
And the second is that Columbus is in the middle of renegotiating its police contract – a document that has allowed for officers like Rosen to be rehired, and that has prevented independent oversight of the department. https://bit.ly/38sGky5
Columbus voters recently approved an Inspector General to oversee police and a Civilian Review Board to investigate misconduct.

But major sticking points – like what sort of subpoena power the board will have – still come down to the police contract. https://bit.ly/2WDZKKG
We have a small team at @wosunews but we’ve been covering these issues pretty much nonstop for years.

Stick with us – we’ll be reporting plenty more on yesterday’s police shooting, the Casey Goodson Jr. case and these larger questions of reform. https://bit.ly/2KNIhNx
