For anyone in #TeamEnglish looking to use automated quizzing for homework @carousel for me is the perfect choice

Having used Microsoft forms a lot it is, for me, definitely better

One thing I especially like and that I think is particularly effective for English is... https://twitter.com/adamboxer1/status/1341714350600499202
...the ability to prompt more open ended and generative analytical responses rather than just the traditional gap fill questions (which you can of course do too)

/2
For example a student might be met with a question like this

Here the student is prompted to analyse that specific image in much the same way they might in a full essay.

Perhaps they might write something like the below:

/3
When they then come to see the results you can input a ‘model’ response for them to self assess.

Here’s the student’s view:

/4
Now of course the student isn’t going to get it word for word (and this, as explained to them, is emphatically not the point).

But what it does do is allow for a moment of metacognition self-assessment attached to a concrete exemplar.

They might consider...

/5
...Did I miss a point? Did I cover all the key ideas? Did I say multiple things about the image? Did I use exploratory language?

This opportunity for generative and open ended response plus meaningful self assessment is amazingly beneficial.

/6
They can then arrive at a judgement as to whether they feel they did get if ‘correct’ or whether it can be improved, again using a concrete model against which to measure and evaluate their own response

/7
And at the end they have another opportunity for this kind of self-reflection.

/9
You can of course do the more expected gap fill stuff, but it’s the generative opportunities for extended writing and self-reflection that makes @Carousel_Learn so effective and useful.
