Just wanted to thank the loyal audience of the Drum this year - all who are on here. I was not able to host the last couple of shows last week so did not have the chance to say how much we value your feedback and engagement, especially during this wild, cyclonic year. Merry 🎄
This year, I was often stopped in the street by people wanting to talk about the Drum. It's important to note that the one consistent point of praise is for the contribution of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander panellists on the show. The women are often singled out. /2
One of the reasons that this is important is that the wisdom and voices of Australia's Indigenous leaders, academics, health workers, activists, students are too often unheard; but they change every conversation, every panel, every show for the better. /3
It seems obvious to say this. But I wanted to record here that this is what we are told over and over and over. Australians aren't interested in culture wars and narrow, crude political labels; they want to hear from people with lived experience, expertise, wisdom, humour. /4
