I think I’ve landed on the real reason for the disconnect between Tannehill’s performance and perception nationally.

... he’s just ruthlessly efficient. That’s not going to make many highlight shows, and he does it in the shadow of a walking highlight reel in Henry, but it’s extremely effective and has won the Titans a lot of football games over the past two years.
He probably won’t get the credit he truly deserves unless the Titans win a Super Bowl, and even then I’d imagine a healthy chunk of the analysis would ignore his contributions, but for those of us who watch him every week, it has been a joy to watch him play.
