"Char Dham" (Four abodes) as defined by Adi Shankaracharya consists of four Vaishnavite pilgrimage sites in Bharat.
1. Badrinath
2. Rameswaram
3. Dwarka
4. Puri

It is believed that every Hindu should visit CharDhams during one's in lifetime, it's helps achieve “मोक्ष”
Sri Adi Shankaracharya organised the Hindu practitioners under four Maṭhas (Sanskrit: मठ)

Dwarka Sharada Peetham in the West, Govardhan Peetham in the East,
Sringeri Sharada Peetham in the South and
Joshimath in the North.
According to Hindu scriptures, Vishnu is in the heart of Shiva as Shiva is in the heart of Vishnu. ( शिवस्य हृदयं विष्णुं विष्णोश्च हृदयं शिवः )

It is said wherever Vishnu resides, Bhagwan Shiva resides nearby and The Chaar Dhaams follow this rule.
Kedarnath is considered as the pair of Badrinath, Rangnath Swami is considered the pair of Rameswaram, Somnath is considered as the pair of Dwaraka and Lingaraja is considered as the pair of Jagannath.
Badrinath became prominent when Nar-Narayan, an avatar of Vishnu, did Tapasya there. At that time that place was filled with berry trees. In Sanskrit language, berries are called "badri", so the place was named Badrika-Van

Local people believe that Mata Lakshmi became the berry
Where the Nar-Narayan did Tapasya, a large berry tree formed covering Him to save Him from the rain and the sun. Local people believe that Mata Lakshmi became the berry tree to save Narayan.

This all happened in the Satya Yuga. So Badrinath came to be known as the first Dham.
In West India it is Dwarka Temple, the abode of Sri Krishna. It is also known as Jagat Mandir. Dwaraka in Gujarat was the dwelling place of Krishna.

There are two gateways: the entrance for pilgrims is Swarga Dwar and the exit is Moksha Dwar near Gomati River.
In East India it is Puri Temple the abode of Jagannath. Puri is also famous for its Rath Yatra (Chariot festival) in the month of June every year when and where 3-huge chariots are pulled in the procession of Prabhu Jagannath, with his Brother Balabhadra and Sister Devi Subhadra.
In South India it is Rameshwaram, abode of Sri Ramanatha Swamy (Shiva) and this Shivling here was worshipped by Shri Ram.

This temple is also 1 of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The floating stone bridge Ram Sethu here was built by Ram on His way to Sri Lanka in the Ramayana.
For this reason, both Vishnu and Shiva worshippers assembled here at Rameshwaram to absolve their sins and gain "Mokshya".

1. Badrinath got Importance "Satya Yuga"
2. Rameswaram got its importance in the "Tretha-Yuga"
3. Third Dhaam Dwarka got its importance in the Dwapara Yuga
4. Forth Dham, Vishnu getting worshiped here as Jagannath which is his Avtar for "Kali yuga".

Bhagwan Vishnu takes his bath at Rameshwaram, meditates at Badrinath, feast in Puri and rest in Dwarka.

Char Dhams are giving cultural & national integrity to the people of Bharat. 🙏
