this take is dumb as shit and let me explain why: https://twitter.com/EsotericExposal/status/1341552856709664769
First of all, it does not account for the route of administration (RoA) of the propylene glycol. The way that a substance is ingested heavily affects its metabolism. When ingested orally, a substance undergoes what is called "first pass metabolism".
First-pass metabolism aims to inactivate any chemicals that may have been ingested, and reduce possible harm to the body. The chemicals that propylene glycol is broken into are as follows:
One chemical is pyruvic acid, a chemical which is a normal part of carbohydrate metabolism that is quickly converted to energy. Another chemical is acetic acid, which is a main component of vinegar. A third product is lactic acid, which is naturally abundant for digestion.
The only metabolic product that is somewhat toxic is propionaldehyde, whose toxicity is extremely mild. You would need to ingest excessive amounts of the stuff to die.
In summary, propylene glycol is three times less toxic than normal drinking alcohol, and you need to fuck off if you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
