King Saint Abgar V of Edessa

Stricken with leprosy, he heard of the miracles of healing performed by Jesus, and wrote Him a letter asking to be cured of his ailment. Christ wrote back, in the only document we know of ever being written by Him.

The letter detailed that Jesus would not come to Edessa to heal the King, or seek refuge from persecution, as His crucifixion was approaching, and His mission precluded him. Christ applauded the King for his faith, and promised that a disciple would heal him after the Ascension.
The Lord send Saint Thaddeus of the 70 to Edessa with a cloth that Christ had wiped His face with. Upon this cloth imprinted an exact image of Christ's face, and this same cloth is what healed Saint Abgar. He became the first Orthodox Christian ruler on Earth.
