Hi its me, the Fun Police, here with a thread about some common things animals are shown doing in ✨fiction✨ that they don't actually do in real life! 🧵
Chameleons don't change colors to mimic their surroundings. Some shift from shades of green/brown to camouflage better, but they mostly change colors in response to temperature and mood. The ones that can display more vibrant colors use them for mating!
Elephants don't drink through their trunk like a straw. Their trunk is basically their nose, fused with their upper lip. So, they use their trunk to suck up water and then squirt it into their mouth. They can, however, use it as a snorkel!
Piranhas aren't the bloodthirsty mobs they're usually depicted as. They do have sharp teeth & powerful jaws, but they're mostly scavengers and foragers, so live humans are not on their menu. They swim together in groups to defend themselves from larger predators!
Turtles can't come out of their shells. Their shells are actually fused with their spine & rib cage, and they grow with the turtle. They can even feel when their shell is touched!
Ostriches don't bury their heads in sand. When their head is down, it kinda looks like their head & neck are underground because they blend in with the sand, but... no 🤣
Lemmings don't run off of cliffs in droves. They may accidentally fall off a cliff, or try to cross a body of water that is too wide, but they're not suicide cultists. The infamous footage from Disney's documentary "White Wilderness" was totally staged!
Camels' humps aren't full of water. It's actually fat! They can go so long without water because of their SUPER efficient kidneys & oval-shaped red blood cells 👍
Porcupines don't shoot their quills! They can stand them up defensively, and the quills can fall out very easily, but they're not projectiles. 🤣
