I guess we have to do this again!

Brian Calle:

-Does not have real journalism experience
-Was a Claremont Institute fellow (along w/ James O'Keefe)
-Was VP of Claremont Institute and w/o any experience was placed in the role of opinion editor of SoCal News Group newspapers
-Published quite a few op-eds that lauded Claremont Institute
-Published op-eds by a Russian movie star defending Putin's annexation of Crimea and praising Donald Trump
-Overstepped in his section on every issue to spout far-right GOP talking points
-Lied about his time at Claremont, saying it was just a mistake he distanced himself from
-Lied about how he got his role at SoCal News Group
-Bought LA Weekly w/ some very shady investors, then immediately profiled one of the owners w/o disclosing his ownership
-Fired every journalist on staff and tried to replace them with crowdsourced content
-Lied about why he purchased LA Weekly & why he fired employees
-Proceeded to radically alter the voice of LAW to be friendly w/ the LAPD and LASD while touting a "can't we all get along" message
Oh I forgot Calle was editor for CalWatchdog! A Koch Bros venture to launder the ideas of far-right goons like Dinesh D'Souza into mainstream! Good times. He also gave talks paid for by the notorious Mercer family, when they were trying to launch their far-right media venture.
Okay, back to recent things Calle has done:

-Repeatedly published sponcon w/ no attempt to identify it as such
-Given copious page space to cannabis businesses he OWNED A STAKE in, while he was also collecting a salary in marketing for those businesses
-Got sued by one of his co-investors, who proved Calle was incompetent and didn't seem to actually care about turning a profit at LA Weekly. Hmmmm wonder why!
-Acted a fool in every interview, lying about me personally and my colleagues multiple times
This is just the tip of the iceberg of how Brian Calle does not deserve anyone's trust or glowing congratulations for buying The Village Voice. @katie_robertson and @lalpert1 it feels like journalistic malpractice to gloss over these things.
