In his post election period, President Trump is making a heck of a case that the Never Trumpers were right all along.
In 2016, there were two conservative concerns about Trump: (1) he would be unreliable on policy, and (2) he is by nature and character fundamentally unfit for the office of President;
He wound up being much better on policy than many of us expected (though execution and implementation often fell short); and too many of us took that as reason enough to ignore the manifest failures of character and fitness, which were, in fact, worse than we feared;
So the Trump apologists among us swept his unfitness and toxicity under the rug of "mean tweets", when it was always so much more than that;
Now, as he denies the results of an election, undermines confidence in our system of government, and cultivates deep and lasting divisions, his lasting toxicity eclipses the ephemeral policy wins that led so many of us to look away from what should always have been plain to see.
