I know these kinds of accounts are disingenuous bigots who idolize a traitor precisely because they romanticize slavery. But it still cracks me up how hard they lie to themselves about a history they claim to know better than historians.

A funny thing about neo Confederate logic? They ignore Lee's words about commemorating the war. And they ignore how bad slavery was for poor white people too. The American Dream that they cling to? A post Civil War invention by white supremacists afraid of being outnumbered.

And I'm going to die on this hill, but America's refusal to undercut the neo Confederate myths with facts is a huge part of how we got here. It's not the neo Nazis driving the hate bus in American politics. They hopped on later.
