Thread of parallels between evermore lyrics and the great gatsby 📚
Starting with happiness, Taylor references one of daisy’s most recognizable quotes. “I hope she’ll be a fool—that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.” -Daisy Buchanan
Moving on to the green light Taylor mentions in happiness. The green light more or less symbolizes Gatsby’s unwavering love for Daisy. The green light hangs at the end of Daisy’s dock and Gatsby bought his house so he could see it every night.
Before I talk about Coney Island, here is a map of where Gatsby (west egg) and Daisy (east egg) lived in relation to Coney Island
The clock reference in Coney Island is probably my favorite. The clock in the novel symbolizes the passage of time that has passed and the moments Gatsby wants back. He spent 5 years without Daisy and he would do anything to rewind time and do things differently
Coney Island pt2. While Gatsby was gone for those five years Daisy ends up marrying Tom who is extremely wealthy. Gatsby wants to win her back so he quickly becomes rich and the talk of the town. He climbed to the top but it means nothing to him without Daisy.
There are literally so many more little references here and there that I may add later but these were the main ones I can’t stop thinking about.
Also thank you @MoyruhJo and @ivyaugusthead who emotionally supported me and helped with this
