Transport, is of course another huge driver of climate catastrophe. Sadly even if all vehicles went electric tomorrow, it would not solve the problem. They need power to run, power which has to be produced, currently largely from fossil fuels. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/nov/25/are-electric-vehicles-really-so-climate-friendly
The Paris accords, were celebrated five years ago as a huge hope for the future, sadly they have turned out to be nothing but hot air, empty promises, which no one had any real intention to work towards. Sadly it appears no one has. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/12/paris-climate-pact-5-years-old-it-working
So, can we actually do anything about climate catastrophe? Of course there are lots of things we can do, one thing we most definitely are unable to do is rely on governments, corporations or others. We have to do it ourselves, it is up to each and every one of us to act.
What we all have to do is stop consuming in such vast quantities, reduce, reuse, change our habits, buy only what we need. Stop traveling by plane. Don't buy the latest biggest of anything, what you already have works just fine.
Work locally or at home as much as we all can, this pandemic, may yet prove to have a few positive impacts in these areas. We have reached a crossroads, and have both an individual and collective decision to make.
Do we want to survive as a species, or not? Because there is little doubt that unless we change how we live, immediately and drastically, we are condemning our children and grandchildren to a much harsher life than we have enjoyed.
Moreover, our great grandchildren may not even be here at all. Nor will any of the other beautiful flora and fauna which currently share this world with us.
