Do you know what help a non-EU immigrant who’s been working hard but recently lost their job would’ve got from the government in 2020?
Zero
Do you know how many such immigrants there are in the UK?
5 million**
——
How many stories have you seen about them in the news?

When you see a non-EU immigrant working in a key job, perhaps as a delivery driver, ask them what keeps them going: it’s usually rent & food.
If you ask if they’ve had any help from the government, see if they respond with anything other than a laugh.

**note on the 5 million number of immigrants who are ineligible for benefits
My own estimate, based on:
11 million est immigrants in UK
3.5m are EU, rest are non-EU
Between 150-200K UK passport applications annually
Chart & project.
Remainder approximates to 5 million.

I should add that these immigrants:
Pay tax
Pay NI
Are here completely legally
Many do not have a vote
...oftentimes for several years before they ‘qualify’ for moving to a status that allows them access to disability, job or housing security.

Are all these immigrants faring badly?
No, not at all.
Some of them work 6-figure jobs. Others run their own businesses. Some work as delivery drivers.
The point I wanted to make was they are on their own. And that is not only not fair, it’s going unrecognised.

From 1st Jan, EVERY new immigrant will fall under this tier.
EU & non-EU.
They’ll become the invisible people who keep Britain running. They’ll pay taxes but get no security. If they can’t work, they’ll have to go home. The news will not talk about them. It’s not right.

From a Tory point of view this is a genius move, obviously. Imagine being able to import millions of skilled workers, whose right to stay, ie visa, is conditional on their job and ability to earn.
They’ll pay tax & NI, but get no benefits. They’ll live here, but have no vote.

So this is erosion of worker rights by surreptitious means.
If you’re a “skilled” migrant who has a job offer, what happens if your boss is a bully, or sexually harasses you at work?
You can take your employer to court, but your visa would lapse, ie you’d have to leave the UK.

I’ll keep adding to this thread when I can, because I find discussion of these points in the media is weak or non-existent.
FYI, I arrived on a “highly skilled migrant” visa and have also studied in the UK - and Brexit changes both these immigration classes quite structurally.
