Alright yal, I just watched Mitch’s performance on the all 22s and idk how we got to extension talk from there. If that’s our standard we are in trouble. Here is a thread. #Bears
First play that caught me attention. 3rd and 1 on simple roll out play. The moment Mitch sees that the defenders don’t switch who they are convering the ball has to be thrown to A Rob. But Mitch takes a sack
Next play. The presnap looks shows 4 receivers vs. 5 defenders and Jimmy Graham 1v1 against defender
Where does Trubisky go? The side with more defenders. I don’t think this was a designated run because the entire line pass blocks. It looks like it was an RPO that gave Trubisky the option to run if he didn’t like pass option. Graham is obviously where he should’ve went
He made this same very mistake in 2018 but vice versa. This literally comes down to counting.
On this 3rd and 6 play, he gets stuck on a progression that clearly is covered the entire way and fails to see an open Mooney who would’ve converted
Turnover worthy play here. Not only was Graham not open. Trubisky stared him down for 2-3 seconds and brought Harrison Smith to the ball. He is lucky he got away with this one
This was not a terrible play but it showed that Trubes is still is who he is. The Bears are running a dagger concept against the quarters side of cover 6. Mitch is supposed to hit Mooney if Harris goes with Miller. That’s what happens here and Mitch doesn’t pull the trigger
The moment he saw Harris’s hips turn with Miller the balls needs to be thrown to Mooney now. These are the same anticipation/processing issues we are still seeing from Mitch in an extremely simplified game plan
Did Trubisky do some good things in this game? Absolutely. He usually does. His problem has been inconsistentency. And idk if yal didn’t know this but he is still inconsistent
Mitch is playing well for Mitch. That does not mean he is playing well. And that’s really the point I am trying to make. I commend the Bears staff for adapting their scheme and am happy for Mitch that he is playing somewhat better. But our standards can’t be this low
