How I wen’t from making $60/week from graphic design in high school to a full time media buyer in 2020.

- I had no coach or “mentor.”

- Everything was self taught.

- I wasn’t given anything for free.

If anything, this shows you can really do what you put your 🧠 to.

THREAD//
Back in 2015, I would come home from school every day and sit in front of my laptop.

Practicing graphic design and Photoshop.

I wanted to make some side money, and I enjoyed the work.
I would work until it was time to sleep most nights.

I did this for a year and a half straight...

To this day, I don’t regret the time I spent on the skill.

Media buying requires creative talent.

I have what most others don’t, and have to outsource for.
I wanted to be known as the best e-Sports designer on Twitter.

The problem was, my market was ridiculously saturated.

I was competing with everyone else truing to do the same thing, and (what seemed like) the entire country of India and Bangladesh.
Nothing against folks from those countries.

They’re some of the most talented professionals I’ve worked with.

It just doesn’t bode well for western designers, like myself.

Because of these facts, I moved away from graphic design.
Here’s why:

1) Companies and organizations would take advantage of young kids trying to make some side money.

I once got offered a position with @eUnited for $300/month for around 30 hours of work/week.

Pathetic.

I’m calling them out because their CMO is still there.
2) There wasn’t long term scaleability.

I could either freelance and compete with guys across the globe on Fiverr with 1/5th my cost of living, or I could go the corporate route.

Unfortunately, corporate jobs for design are capped at 50-60k/year as a senior role.

No bueno.
3) I realized I wasn’t naturally gifted.

I was above average, but not exceptional.

This is OK.

My ceiling was reaching it’s limit. It was time to find something else.

And that’s where things changed.
I was scrolling on YouTube one day in 2017, and I stumbled upon a video on stocks.

I was intrigued.

One video led to another.

And then I came across the term “dropshipping.”
The first few videos caught my attention because of the Lambos and Shopify screenshots.

But I kept learning because I had found something I could utilize all my skills with.

You can’t be dumb and dropship successfully.

Plus, my income wasn’t capped.
So after a month or two of learning, I started up my first store selling watches.

It failed, miserably.

So I tried again.

Failed.

Third times a charm?

Ha. Nope.

It took me 7 stores to get something working.

Think about that before you quit after spending $200.
I ended up selling that store for $20,000 a few years ago.

I was sick of the “running an E-Commerce business” thing, but I had fallen in love with paid media.

Waking up each day, seeing that ROAS number.

It was a rush.

Plus, I could use my creative talents.
So I decided I wanted to pursue media buying full time.

Just like years ago, I put my head down and got to work.

Monk mode.

So many nights out sacrificed.

Many Netflix shows missed.

I didn’t care.

I was building for the future.
And to this day, I have no regrets.

I’ve developed a skill that will put food on the table for the rest of my life.

I continued to freelance and work on my skills since then.

Even starting this Twitter account in August 2020.

Today, we have over 1,000 kingdom members. 💪🏻👑
2021 will be huge.

I’ll be launching the most extensive Facebook Ads course in history.

Plus, we’ll continue to build our community on Twitter.
