Hov is highly respected for having one of the most consistent and long running discogs in hip hop and he for sure has his high points but some mediocre ones as well
13. Kingdom Come
While this album started off strong with The Prelude, it quickly fell on its face with Jay sounding more bored than he ever did on production that was inconsistent at best. Not a bad album but disappointing after TBA.
Decent 6/10
Best Tracks - Lost One, Prelude

12. Blueprint 2
Blueprint 2 like KC has its high points but being 25 songs drags this album down a lot as there songs obviously made to get the album to 1hr 48min (2 Many Hoes, Fuck All Nite etc.)
Best Tracks - Watcher 2, Meet The Parents, UDK Remix

11. The Blueprint 3
A third of the track list isn’t that good with the pretentiousness of Death Of Autotune and the inconsistent production on tracks such as Off That. There are still some dope cuts on here.
Best Tracks - Run This Town, A Star Is Born
Light 7/10

10. Magna Carta Holy Grail
A step up from the last 3, MCHG adapts Jay into the modern era to good/decent results but has the weakest replay values out of his 13 albums imo.
Best Tracks - Holy Grail, Oceans, Jay Z Blue

9. Vol 3
Although I wouldn’t say Vol 3 is an essential Hov album it’s definitely underrated within his discog and has some of his best songs, it definitely has skips (Jigga My Nigga) but it’s highs are some of his best.
Best Tracks - Dope Man, Big Pimpin, it’s hot

8. Vol 1
I’ve talked very ill about Vol 1 on here but it has some of his best performances (Imaginary Players) and some of his worst (I Know What Girls Like) but this era of Hov is iconic and was a stepping stone for his improvement
Best Tracks - IP, Intro

7. The Blueprint
Ok here me point !
BP has some of his best songs (Heart Of The City, Never Change) but there are a few songs I can go without (Jigga That Nigga especially, Girls Girls Girls, Hola Hovito). But this album was instrumental to the expansion of Hov’s personality

And for that I respect the album but I don’t see it in as high of a caliber as most do

6. Vol 2
This album transformed Hov into a superstar and made me a diehard fan of his, with songs such as Ghetto Anthem and Can I Get A but has some of his best joints as well like Ride or Die.
Best Tracks - ROD, A Week Ago, Coming of Age 2

5. American Gangster
I’ve already gushed about this album before but this brought Hov back to his mafioso routes and reestablished his credibility at picking amazing beats.
Best Tracks - Say Hello, Success, Blue Magic

4. 4:44
Jay at his most personal, he reflects on his regrets of his love life and former life as a hustler while raising a daughter and the No ID production elevates these lyrics and makes this one of his best projects all at 47.
Best Tracks - 4:44, Story of OJ,

3. The Dynasty
Dynasty started off as a Rocafella compilation but turned into Jay’s 5th album. It takes advantage of Beanie Sigel and Memphis Bleek’s appearances on previous Hov albums and heavily incorporates them into most of the 16 tracks aside from 3 solo jay tracks.

2. The Black Album
Jay’s original retirement album was a masterpiece and the closest thing touching his debut, an introspective and endearing album that would’ve had Jay go out on his own terms.
Best Tracks - Moment of Clarity, My 1st Song, Allure, Lucifer

1. Reasonable Doubt
No other Jay album could top his hunger and the highs of Reasonable Doubt. It’s mafioso lyrics heavily influenced the genre and his few introspective moments gave us Jay Z’s best creation that being D’evils. The reminscing of his past and how grimy his life

Had gotten all the way up to 1996.
A Top 20 HH album that solidified his greatness
Best Tracks - D’evils, Regrets, Dead Presidents, Politics As Usual, Can I Live, Can’t Knock The Hustle, Feelin It, Bring It On, Friend Or Foe, Brooklyn’s Finest, Coming Of Age,
