I've heard Biden joke several times that he's still a Catholic for two reasons: "The nuns and the Jesuits." An interesting story behind the Jesuit priest, Rev. Alfred Delp, he quoted from today. "Advent is the time of rousing."
Delp, a German priest, was part of the Catholic resistance to Nazism. According to the Jesuit magazine, America, he was hanged for treason and "at Hitler's command, Delp’s ashes were scattered to the winds. There was to be nothing by which to remember him" https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2008/01/21/jesuit-martyr-nazis-hitler-wanted-alfred-delp-forgotten-his-way-resistance-still
Today he was quoted directly by the president-elect of the United States -- a Catholic, and one who also has built a close relationship with the first Jesuit pope
