Actors: as many other directors & CDs have said on here today, I also prefer actors donât learn the scripts prior to audition. My ideal is a good familiarity, thought on intention & character, & openness to explore and discover, together. Thread.
I aim for an audition to be like a mini rehearsal - I want time for us to see how weâll click on the TV set, in rehearsal room, on mocap stage or VO booth. I really want you to decide if youâd like to work with me too, not just vice-versa. I donât take it as read that you will.
There is, unfortunately, one exception to âdonât learn linesâ on the work that I do, & thatâs for mocap for games. Your tape will be sent to the game developers, who often like to see the physical performance, so they can envisage how the animated avatar will work.
Of course, if your work is excellent and really interesting to them, and the physical work isnât trapped by or encumbered by holding a script, then that will work too!
