Ok so I'm reading Moral Revolution by Kris and Jason Vallotton (B****l leaders) for
research purposes
(I got it for free I gave them no money do not fear) and man this is BAD

An excerpt following a parable about a ring that a guy 'Jonny' saves up for for ages:
'
The ring is a symbol of your virginity and the battle
is real! Your virginity is a treasure hidden in the vault of your
life, protected by the helmet of your virtues, values and
principles.'

Unsurprisingly, the book works off the assumption that everyone will get married & only a short paragraph on singleness:
'To stay single your entire life will necessitate a special endowment from
heaven, because it takes a man and a woman to be a complete person... (p149)cont..

...How do you know if you have received the gift of
'singleness from God? That’s simple. You won’t have difficulty controlling your sex drive' (p148/149)
No. This is NOT how we effectively judge whether we've 'received the gift of singleness' (which I don't think is helpful.

...way of talking about singleness. I haven't done enough exegesis/learnt enough Greek to pick apart 1 Cor 12 but I wonder if Paul meant it more as 'it is a gift from God to be in singleness' rather than 'God endowing the gift of singleness'...
Control your sex drive requires discipline and self-control and is something that must be learnt by both lifelong singles, married people and those who wish to be married in the future.
Self control is a fruit of the Spirit, not a calling to lifelong singleness...

"You are not supposed to be single for your entire life if you burn with passion for sex." (p149)
If you burn with passion for sex, you need to take that to God in prayer not go find a spouse and get married...

Marriage isn't a solution to your desires for sex.
It is a mystery. It is a covenant before God. It is a beautiful image of the marriage between Christ and his Church.
And it is about so much more than sex.

Also can we address 'it takes a man + a woman to be a complete person'?!?
Lord have mercy.
Women, you don't need a man to make you whole. Men, you dont need a woman to make you whole. As @Megloiss said: was Jesus not whole?
This is entirely unbiblical.

Ok I'm onto the section that refers to same-sex love. Theologically so far I agree however this language and these analogies are horrible:
'I heard a guy on television the other day trying to convince people that homosexuality is a
normal lifestyle...
'I heard a guy on television the other day trying to convince people that homosexuality is a

'He said, “Male dogs hump other male dogs.
This proves that having sex with the same gender is just a part of Mother Nature’s ways.” I remember the days when acting like a dog was considered a negative thing. I hope we don’t start peeing on our neighbor’s trees' (p162)

^^Gross and totally unnecessary commentary from him.
There is also a chapter on abortion, femininity and motherhood. Though I agree with him on abortion theologically, this is very graphic. Maybe necessary in general but it doesn't seem to fit in with anything else in the book.
The book ends with a chapter entitled 'Grace' & is about K&J's son's dating, engagement and marriage to this woman Grace. Grace is a new Christian and has had sex with many men whilst Anthony is 'sexually pure', though he has struggled with porn. She cries to K&J how she can't..
marry Anthony due to her past. K&J pray for Grace's 'virginity & purity to be restored in Jesus name' (p202). She and Anthony get married and whilst on their honeymoon, Grace calls K&J (her in laws) and she asks 'do you remember praying for my virginity to be restored?' (p205)..
They answer '“Of course. I will never forget that"'
And Grace says: '“Well, God restored my hymen!” she said excitedly. This was a sign that made our whole family wonder. We were in awe.' (p.205)
I mean, ok cool great for her but your hymen being intact isn't a sign of purity?

I can't believe I actually just read that. Let alone in a book that so many people (particularly young Christians) are learning from.
Gals, if you didn't already know this: your hymen can break for any number of reasons and activities, not just sex. It doesn't define purity...
