The point here isn’t “there shouldn’t be LatinX Senators,” so pls don’t come here and say that.

The point, for me at least, is that we gotta fix our systems so our government actually looks like *all* the people.

A place to start? Ending voter suppression for good. https://twitter.com/prestonmitchum/status/1341452100509773826
“What does this have to do with voter suppression?”

Well, without it, Democrats of color would have a lot easier time winning statewide office, like Governor and Senate seats

Case in point: Stacey Abrams

It’s not the only lever that needs fixing-but it needs fixing. ASAP.
So, pointing out that there won’t be a BW in the Senate (esp. when the CA voters voted for a BW) is right and necessary-and it doesn’t negate anything else.

Newsom didn’t even pick a woman which is...fascinating.

That was...a choice 😬
Ultimately I want all of Congress to actually look like America, Senate included.

And I want all marginalized folks not to have to hang out hats on one or two seats.

Because that, my friends, is the trick of the oppressor. Scarcity.
The truth is that real “equity” actually looks like the OVER representation of historically marginalized groups.

But a lot of folks have no interest in that conversation LOL
