this is just me organizing my thoughts mixed with facts&speculation while approaching the "acceptance" stage of grief lmao. anyways. here's how I'm fitting together what we got with the fact that no one on earth would have predicted this from andrew "tfw beach retirement" dabb /2
so I think it's pretty clear that the writers were not allowed to reunite dean & cas onscreen. the evidence here is *points at 19/20* along with knowing as a FACT that misha's participation in the pre-covid finale was going to be as jimmy fucking novak (??????) /3
meaning they needed some way to include misha and get cas exposition without having cas on screen. now you can say that that's a writing issue and in one respect you're right -- the jimmy thing is fucking stupid. /4
but I cannot agree with you if you want to say that, barring any outside meddling, the writers would have CHOSEN not to reunite dean&cas when their intention was ALWAYS to have cas saved from the empty. there's just no way the ppl who gave us s13 & 15x18 would have chosen that /5
so, let's back up. you're andrew dabb. you have finally been given the greenlight on The Greatest Love Story Ever Told--but only if it's either unreciprocated and/or you don't reunite them onscreen, bc the higher-ups couldnt deal with dean being queer. here are your variables: /6

(now ppl can argue that they would have liked to see dean choose to live a life honoring cas, I think that's reasonable, but also problematic knowing dean's history of saving loved ones from afterlives)(and again, this makes jack a total dick to his dads). /9

especially in a pre-covid world where they could do a big gathering both on earth and in heaven of friends and found-family and really give the show the ensemble send-off it deserved.
