Why then do "the squad" refuse to do anything about Medicare for All? Why is there an entire media eco-system of youtubers, leftist magazines, alleged jouranlists and failed actors making excuses for their inaction?
The reality of AOC et al is that these people did not come out of the organised labour movement or out of real community organising but out of the traditional systems whereby the democratic party finds its new recruits.
AOC for instance went to an elite university and interned for Ted Kennedy, that's she fawned over John "Nazis & Jihadists" McCain, because she knew him from her time with Kennedy.
What the Sanders 2016 run did was create a space for the likes of AOC to do a rebrand. You could now get elected off the back of a radicalised middle class spouting a grab bag of radical sounding pseudo social democracy and hyper woke identitarianism.
So if AOC sounds like a random selection of slogans with zero thought put into them it's because that's her talent. She picks up on what's in the ether and repackages it for her base of middle class Brooklyn gentrifiers who lap it up.
AOC's politics are the equivalent of a pair of pre-ripped jeans sold by the likes "Urban Outfitters". It looks like the original punk rock aesthetic but it's been designed to look that way and so feels false and plasticated.
AOC is thus just a brand. Her whole persona is a composite that she's put together in order to pursue the career she had in mind anyway. She just realised that being a Clintonite wasn't the right branding for this moment.
As for her media simps the same applies. These people realised that there was a big market in selling takes that bigged up all things AOC (especially now Bernie is seen as damaged goods). They have built their brands in the media market by being seen as close to AOC etc.
AOC knows damn well that if she pushed the M4A then the party machine would crush her whole career. But she needs to pretend to push for it as that's managing her brand. The furious simps are also protecting this illusion, protecting their brands.
This is all, in the end, a question of political economy as @shoe_sticky has tirelessly outlined. The political economy of the media, including alternative media. In a very unstable constantly shifting landscape, where careers can be made and unmade with a stray tweet.
Hence why they are all so enraged with Dore. He, as a media actor, is not supposed to put the con at risk by demanding that the progressives act on their supposed agenda. Once it's revealed that these people are just regular old Dems who aren't prepared to do shit the gig is up
That's you see the likes of Dixon, Konst, Seder, Uygur, Vigeland and co getting so enraged and lying about everything. If the illusion of the progressives goes down in the flames then so do their media careers.
It is also vital to bear in mind that the Democratic and Republican parties are both appendages of the US state itself, they are intertwined with it on every single level. You could no more change the nature of either of them to be "pro worker" than you could the CIA.
