In western Afghanistan, in a very remote and difficult to access area, there is a minaret built in the 12th century and it's unique in many ways. One of them is that "The main theme of the Koranic verses that decorate the minaret is Mary, the mother of Jesus"
In fact, "Interlaced bands consist of Surah Maryam XIX". That's right, the Quran has a whole chapter (19 Surah) dedicated to Maryam (Mary) and her son Jesus (Isa).
But there's another aspect to this that I find fascinating: for a long time it was thought the area had been scarcely inhabited and the minaret was an outpost. But then archeologists found a settlement around it. The leading theory now is that it was inhabited by Jewish people
