I think the problem is that post-FOX News, conservatives at least aren’t conditioned to debate their liberal relatives. https://twitter.com/dcoxpolls/status/1341366697513656320
Most Democrats are trained to engage with conservatives as though they are all members of the Lincoln Project, but that’s not reality.
I think you could possible move past friction between HRC and Sanders supporters (a family dichotomy that actually exists, though we don’t see many stories about it).
But Fox News, right-wing media, has brainwashed viewers into believing liberals are next of kin to Satan.
They are conditioned to literally view their liberal family members as unAmerican monsters but they can’t believe they’re monsters, deep down, so they compartmentalize. Thus, it’s best to not engage.
Now, the liberals I know who have conservative relatives (mostly white people) are usually in a different state of denial: They all think their cool conservative aunts are Nicolle Wallace and Jennifer Rubin but they’re usually Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Even now, I’m like, “Yeah .... I don’t think most Republicans are Never Trumpers.” The math doesn’t work.
