We will never go back to pre-covid life. This is the case. There are things that MUST be addressed however by liberal individuals or post-covid life will deepen the inequities in society. It is SO much more than your fear of crowded spaces/ handshakes. A thread. #covid19
The societal impact on gender and Healthcare cannot be mitigated. It had reinforced gender norms in the home that has made it more difficult for women to achieve success. Google gender+ #covid19 /1 https://www.newamerica.org/better-life-lab/blog/covid-19s-impact-childcare-and-gender-equality/
The implications for businesses are staggering. I don't see travel and hospitality returning to anything remotely similar to pre- #covid19 until 2030- at the earliest. There will still BE these things but it's not unreasonable to assume a sharp decline /2

It is my hope that #covid19 increases the appreciation for in person learning but that doesn't take away from a year of students who will suffer significantly. /3
(I don't know about this in detail. I hope we can listen to teachers+learn) https://www.brookings.edu/research/beyond-reopening-schools-how-education-can-emerge-stronger-than-before-covid-19/

From housing to joblessness to being afraid to touch people if America does not commit to addressing mental health with immense resources we are heading for a literal depression the likes we haven't seen in our lifetime /4 https://www.psychiatrictimes.com/view/post-covid-stress-disorder-emerging-consequence-global-pandemic
The biggest issue is how #COVID19 has affected BIPOC communities particularly the Black community. I cannot and will not speak to this issue and the pain they face.
I will instead say to my fellow white Americans we must offer more than solidarity. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/09/23/914427907/as-pandemic-deaths-add-up-racial-disparities-persist-and-in-some-cases-worsen

Something particularly heavy on my mind is the sheer # of people who have the education to stay at home while there are those that don't who work outside the home. That terrifies me. Inequalities like that MUST be addressed or poverty gaps created by #COVID19 will deepen. /6

One of the things that #covid19 should kill is the idea of American exceptionalism. The American individual as we know it *must* be redesigned. Countries that beat this did so via cultural differences or location. *Those* countries are poised to be superpowers. Period./9.5
If the American individual is not redesigned then America will perish and not to make this political but unless the left gets SERIOUS about getting behind these policies those redesigning will be the right wingers because *they are united* .
