In a move that had been pretty well telegraphed, landlords have filed suit against the state in federal court over a newly passed bill that would award them 80% back rent if they forgive the other 20%. #orpol #orleg
The threat of a lawsuit was one reason some lawmakers had pressed for a provision that would grant tax credits to landlords who've had to forego rent because of COVID. The lawsuit folds in far more than the bill that passed yesterday, though, extending to the eviction moratoria that have been passed on the state, county and city levels this year.
One glaring error in this lawsuit: That H in my last name is capitalized.
