This is bullshit. 2020 polling showed gun safety messaging moved generic ballots by six points in favor of Dems. Voters in battleground states support stronger gun laws by a 4:1 margin, and 84% of voters polled said a candidate’s position on gun policy is important to their vote. https://twitter.com/mattyglesias/status/1341419861222825987
Perhaps @mattyglesias has heard of Virginia? In 2019 we flipped both chambers of the General Assembly and gun safety was among the top three issues to voters. Since then, we’ve passed seven new good gun laws, which have strong support among voters - regardless of political party.
40,000+ are killed annually in the US by preventable gun violence, from gun homicides to suicides to unintentional shootings to domestic violence.

That’s not a rounding error; it’s a uniquely American tragedy that can and must be solved legislatively, culturally and electorally.
Activism takes time. In 2010, 25% of Congressional Dems had NRA A-ratings. Today, none of them do. In 2010, there was no national grassroots to take on the gun lobby. Today, we are larger than the NRA. That’s because gun safety is politically astute AND a moral imperative.
Catering to gun lobbyists and gun extremists for decades is how we ended up with a 25 X higher gun homicide rate than any other high-income country in the first place. And while the US accounts for just 4% of the world’s population, it has 35% of global firearm suicides.
Being a contrarian to get clicks is one thing; uninformed hot takes is another. There are lots of reasons for the mixed election outcome in 2020. I’ve spoken personally to elected officials up and down the ballot and NONE OF THEM blamed their stance in favor of gun safety.
Anyhoo, if you want to know more about our accomplishments and how we’re winning on this issue, go here.

We’re going to keep at it until every lawmaker - regardless of political party - is on our side. And the NRA is stripped of its political power. https://momsdemandaction.org/about/victories/
