IMPORTANT THREAD

1-The Islamic Republic of Iran has executed journalist #RuhollahZam. However, the reaction from the Council of Europe and European Parliament hasn't gone beyond mere verbal condemnations. Many Iranian civil rights activists and journalists are asking for action

2-Verbal condemnations with no concrete action against the officials of the Islamic Republic mean executions will continue. We ask the EU & the UN to condition negotiations with Iran, particularly in trade and business, on the observance of human rights & fundamental freedoms.

3-Please issue a comprehensive joint statement at the next session of the UN Human Rights Council in March 2021 about the human rights violations & enact punitive diplomatic measures such as travel bans & asset freezes on officials/entities involved in these violations

4-Stress and support the need for international accountability given the climate of impunity prevailing inside Iran. Arrest and prosecute the Iranian officials responsible for ordering and committing torture, extrajudicial killings, crimes against humanity

5-Your verbal condemnations with no concrete action signify that you are unfazed by the human rights tragedy in Iran. It also means that Iranian lives don't matter to you more than trade deals. We as a nation are more than trade deals.
