An early #FLR story for you:
Most of us know Annie Oakley as the best female sharpshooter there ever was. Now lemme tell you about her marriage. Annie met her future husband Frank Butler, when she bested him in a shooting contest. Rather than get offended he did something else /1
He courted her! So impressed was he by her talent, that he was enamored and after a year, they were married. They set out touring together as a sharpshooting duo, eventually joining the world-famous Buffalo Bill Wild West Tour. 2/
Soon, Annie's talent & skill led to a fame that eclipsed Frank's. Rather than be bitter or withdrawn, he supported her career. He became HER assistant, trusting her not only to be the breadwinner, but with his very life. Every show she would shoot a cigar out of his mouth. 3/
Annie suffered injuries from a life on the road (Train crash and later a car crash) and Frank took care of her, and made sure that when she wanted, they could go back on tour doing what she loved. He doted on her and promoted her. 4/
He supported her women's rights causes, and her charities (nearly all of her fortune was given to charities and family while she was alive). And when she died at 66, he was so distraught that he stopped eating and died a mere 18 days later. 5/
No one can know for sure if Frank and Annie had an #FLR in the sense we know it, but they had a strong, happy marriage based on her talent and prowess, bolstered by his exceptional, unwavering support. And if that's not an FLR, it's a darned good start. /END
