Very excited to see our assessment of #salmon populations in the #Broughton Archipelago online!

https://www.salmoncoast.org/salmon-coast-projects/status-of-pacific-salmon-in-the-region/

For me, there were 3 take-homes from this analysis (thread): https://twitter.com/SalmonCoast/status/1341319604732264450
1) 🚥 Most populations have low abundance relative to the past (red or amber abundance), but show some capacity to rebound if given the chance (amber or green resilience = positive productivity). 🚥

➡️ Area ripe for restoration efforts!
2) We looked at RIVER populations, and there was a lot of variability among rivers within the region - variability that is important to local people and titleholders, but not captured in broader-scale analyses (like http://www.salmonexplorer.ca , which looks at Conservation Units)
3) Consistent with coast-wide patterns, monitoring has declined to the point that many populations were "data deficient" and could not be assessed.

In the last year of data we had (2017), only 11 species-river combos had spawner estimates!! 👇
All this to say, we got work to do! But these salmon are resilient and if we give them the chance they will thrive.

Removing #fishfarms from the #Broughton and #DiscoveryIslands is a step in the right direction.
Thanks to @eatkinso & @bat3man for leading this analysis and to @SalmonCoast, @WatershedWatch_, @SeaToCedar and many others.
