As we near the end of the year, a shout-out to all of my fellow 2020 book authors. (thread!)
It was a rough go for the vast majority of us. With an impeachment and the pandemic, it was tough to get reviewed.
Book sales at first fell 85% & then stabilized at 30% lower than 2019.

Book events were cancelled or rescheduled for next year.
A silver lining: I am grateful to the historical societies, libraries, and bookstores that pivoted so quickly to Zoom events.
These have allowed many of us to reach broader audiences than we would have normally.

Most of us could not host book parties.
Or sign books IRL for readers.
Or hug our friends at conference book launches.
But we authors have had one another for commiseration, and the online community has been extraordinary in their support of our books. So thank you!

So if you had a book out in 2020, or have a friend who did, respond to this thread with a link to buy - I *know* there are still folks out there looking around for good holiday gifts!

I'll start:
Throughout this year, @lmchervinsky has been a great friend, cheering me and other 2020 authors on in a variety of platforms.
Here's her great book, #TheCabinet: https://bookshop.org/books/the-cabinet-george-washington-and-the-creation-of-an-american-institution/9780674986480

Lindsay also put together the History Summit, giving 2020 authors a platform to promote their books during the pandemic. For this she deserves some kind of special award (perhaps in cookie form).

And to promote a good friend who is not on the Twitters: Chris Capozzola worked on his new book, #BoundByWar, for 10+ years, and its publication was delayed by the pandemic.
I've read bits of it, and it is amazing. https://bookshop.org/books/bound-by-war-how-the-united-states-and-the-philippines-built-america-s-first-pacific-century/9781541618275

If you are into historical fiction (and art!), check out @sgstorey's 2020 novel, "Raphael."
A pandemic silver lining: I met Stephanie through her video series "Storey Time." She is wonderful, as is this novel and her debut ("Oil and Marble"). https://bookshop.org/books/raphael-painter-in-rome/9781950691272
