I don't understand narrative that ppl in USA simply accept what's happening to them & don't resist. There's been nonstop protest for years, numerous uprisings in 2020 alone. Ppl are struggling to survive & facing down militarized police forces in the seat of empire at same time.
Apparently ppl expect everyone (else) who's frustrated rn to hop up & go face down a gov't that's already shown willingness to kill them when most just want to live & be left alone. They aren't storming the capitol rn for the same reason you aren't even as you tweet.
A lot of folks don't appreciate the extent to which uprisings are largely fueled by people doing tedious, unromantic organizing work day in & day out with little attention from anyone except the feds monitoring them while ppl who aren't participating declare it isn't happening.
People move when they are ready to move. The focus should be on fostering conditions & building infrastructure that can sustain their momentum as long as possible when people reach that point, not berating an already beleaguered people for not moving when there's no coordination.
For instance, we could ask why everyone facing eviction doesn't simply refuse to leave right now (as some are/have). But imagine the uncertainty an individual faces in doing that w/o coordinated strategy or a network around them or an overwhelming mass of ppl doing the same.
Expecting everyone to spontaneously rebel at any given time is contrary to human behavior & how ppl make calculated decisions around risks to their own survival. That's why organizing is so essential. Hopefully we reach a point where a critical mass decides the risk is worth it.
People frequently reach a boiling point where they rebel for a time. But without the tedious, unromantic organizing work that is needed to sustain that energy, it fizzles out & then ppl have to calculate when they again feel motivated enough to take a risk at openly rebelling.
