New ep today! @EmmaButtSound discusses the new study she authored and published in the Journal of Media and Diversity. https://tonebenderspodcast.com/151-journal-of-media-and-diversity-study/
Some important bottom takeaways from her study: Of the 36 shows evaluated there were 60 roles that fell into the categories of Dialogue Editor, sound Effects Editor or Re-Recording Mixer. this research found that only one mixed race person was and they identified as male.
No other sound team from within the sample included someone from a Black or ethnic minority background of any gender. In terms of gender diversity, the highest rated shows produced for BBC1 and BBC2 included only three white women.
In total six women were included out of the 60 available roles.

All other members of the teams identified as white men.
We chatted about what this all means, what kind of work went into the study, and what kinds of things can be done to address the issue without disrupting budgets or deadlines. We also said "Feck" a lot. enjoy! https://tonebenderspodcast.com/151-journal-of-media-and-diversity-study/
