good for mulaney, but the way we treat people with addiction in the anglo world is fucking ghastly. it will be basically impossible to care for people dealing with addiction until we completely change how we think about medical care generally
like, medical care absolutely 100% should not be diagnostic care only. it should be cradle-to-grave in the truest sense of the term, constant recognition that the body and mind need attention and care, and NOT just when they stop “working”
medical care should be 100% integrated into our communities and daily routines, and should be no more or less emotional/socially significant than buying groceries or making your bed. and addiction treatment should be the same, a full-throated communal care effort.
anyways much love to america’s favourite fun catholic, it’s cool to see people treating his addiction *not* as a moral failure, and i hope that response can be extended to all addicts, because it’s the right and good response
also — we need to remember that the collapse of communities means that caring for people tends to fall unfairly and cruelly on individuals in a way that is both unsustainable and unfair to them. if the other rumour is true, then that’s not a moral failing on her part, either.
