Why Jorginho doesnt suit this Chelsea side: Thread
Jorginho isn't your traditional English #6 who breaks legs for fun or the Spanish DLP that spams inch perfect through balls. He improves the team around him with his tactical intelligence and quick thinking.
I have seen many fake registas like Rodri and Berge that show how good Jorginho is at his job. They are what people think Jorginho is. Sideways passes without purpose while Jorginho plays it forward without a fuss when he can spot a good play.
In the first highlight you can see Jorginho play a pass through the lines himself. In the second clip he cant play it through so he makes a sideways pass to Allan and points where Allan should pass. When he had the ball at his feet he already planned out this passing route
Every pass Jorginho makes has a purpose, he usually thinks ahead of time. Where will the ball end up after a few more passes. This is hard for most people to notice and I won't talk about it long as it's not the topic of this thread.
Look at how many line breaking passes Jorginho makes in just 15 minutes before half time
He would also do the same thing at Hellas Verona and continues to play the same role in the Italian NT
Now I always talk about this but there are players who win you games with individual brilliance but dont improve the team. The prime example for this is Ronaldo. The team doesn't play better with him, but he can score 2 goals out of nowhere to win a game.
Bruno Fernandes is an example from midfield. The team relies on him to create chances from nowhere using his tech but since he forces these passes he's very wasteful and that doesn't really improve the team.
Defenders who rely on PnP might mess up the team's defence structure just to save the team with last ditch tackles and recoveries.
Managers like Zidane, Lampard, Ole who are very weak tactically plan to win games by making such individuals thrive. Which is why they are often criticized for getting carried by individual brilliance.
Lampard's desire for Declan Rice as his DM confirms that this is his approach to management. Similar to Casemiro under Zidane, Lampard also prefers a destroyer #6
Jorginho thrives under JdP managers like Pep or Sarri but even in a less tactical setup like the Italy NT, Jorginho's line breaking passes and ball progression are his skill of individual brilliance. This isnt useful at Chelsea anymore who only progress the ball through the wings
I hope this thread helped you understand why some people don't like certain types of players who don't improve the team even if they do well, and why others dont like players who never contribute to the scoresheet even if that might not be their job and Jorginho's role on this 😁
