Fascists are addicted to the Classical style because they believe they are direct aesthetic and political descendants of Rome and Greece, despite the fact that they also know next to nothing about the reality of those empires. It’s a fantasy that gives them false legitimacy

They don’t need or want to know Actual History (including art history) bc reality doesn’t matter to fascists. They are busy building a fantasy world in which they are good & pure & strong & anything that doesn’t look or behave they way they want is the opposite of those things
