Our Primary Care COVID vaccination programme for any patients registered with Middlesbrough GPs starts today. The first 975 patients have already been booked in.Here's some useful info for elderly patients who will be the first to be invited

Extreme temperature controlled vaccine storage requirements and the inability to transport the vaccine once each box of 975 vials is opened. This means we have to vaccinate 975 people in a limited time window3/10
Each person has to be socially distanced from each other and then once the vaccine has been administered, each person needs to be observed for 15minutes before they can leave the building4/10
For the above reasons, this can only be delivered at scale and NOT within individual GP surgeries as they would not be able to administer the large number of doses in one box, within a practical time frame. (Within 72hrs, any unused vaccines would be wasted)5/10
All 13 GP practices across Middlesbrough are working very closely together on this. Every person - regardless of which GP they are registered with - will need to attend the NORTH ORMESBY HEALTH VILLAGE branch of Linthorpe Surgery for their vaccine. 6/10
Please do not beseech your own GP surgery to give your vaccine! No matter how many times you ask - as much as they would love to - at this stage, they ARE JUST NOT ABLE do this! 7/10
An average GP practice with 9,000 registered patients will have an allotted share of approximately 90 vaccines from each box of 975. This ensure fair distribution across Middlesbrough. 8/10
Even the first cohort of over 80yr olds will take many weeks to get through. Those who are over 80 but deemed most vulnerable (ie. those with multiple health issues) will get the first vaccines. So if you are a healthy over 80 yr old, you may still have to wait. Sorry :( 9/10
We know this will cause frustrations & concerns. But please be patient. Help us to help those most vulnerable and we will get through this challenge as quickly as we possible can! In the meantime - STAY SAFE. STAY HOME & have a healthy, if somewhat quiet, Christmas
